Reimagining the Living Room of Father Ted

Father Ted is a British made Sitcom- clipping from situational comedy. It was produced by Hat Trick Productions (a British independent production company that produces television programmes that basically specialises in comedy) for Channel 4 (British public service free to air television network).

It was written by Irish writers – Arthur Mathews and Graham Linehan. Predominantly, Irish cast featured in it and it originally aired over three series from 21 April 1995 until 1 May 1998. Infact, 25 episodes of Christmas Special was aired. The show was telecasted on RTÉ Two in Ireland, ABC Television (series 2 and 3) and in Australia on Nine Network (series 1).

Set on the fictional island off the west coast of Ireland, the show starred Dermot Morgan as the eponymous Father Ted Crilly. In the show along with him was fellow priests Father Jack Hackett (Frank Kelly) and Father Dougal McGuire (Ardal O’Hanlon). The priests were exiled for various types of past incidents. Then after, they lived with their housekeeper Mrs Doyle (Pauline McLynn).

The show was taken to new heights and was critically acclaimed. It received the BAFTA awards and still remains one of the popular sitcom in the Ireland and the United Kingdom. Infact, in 2019 the show ranked second in a list of greatest British Sitcoms.

It’s been 24 years the first episode of the show was aired but believe it or not ‘Spider-babies’ were then the talk of school-yards, all over the country. In case, you don’t remember – remember the show that had huge impact on the Irish pop culture – very much there with the likes of U2, the Late Late, the Eurovision and Italia ’90 and Roddy Doyle.

The power of television shows impact is quite unbelievable and it keeps on influencing us in different ways we might have not realised. Such a kind of show was Father Ted and it has impacted our lives in a great way.

Though if you can remember it minutely, the living room of Father Ted wasn’t bright, cheerful & interesting. Rather it was old fashioned and dingy. It looked me untidy and messy. To get an idea of what the living room would look like today, the guys over at Chill Insurance have reimagined it with some of today’s popular home interior trends, such as bohemian, industrial and even modern country. Which one is your favourite? You can see them all here, but i’ve outlined my favourites below.

Bohemian

A bohemian home is all about mixes and matches. It uses a lot of varied patterns and colours. It offers different contrasting patterns and colours with a whole lot of quirky artworks on the walls. Even there are greenery added to create that jungle feel.  Though the room look a bit cluttered but it is quite effective to get that bohemian look.

Living Walls

In the last few years it’s been observed that plants has a lot of impact in our homes from hanging plants to plants in washrooms. Living walls is a reimagination of the same. You will find greenery on the walls. With a minimalistic setting the walls adds to the richness of the home adding colour and vibrancy.

Industrial

This setting is more of with bricks, metal and distressed wood. Though this offers a harsh setting but, the look can be softened using soft furnishings such as curtain and rugs. Tables, shelves and lamps offers the harsh yet cold look.

Mid Century

It usually resemble the period of modern designs specifically from 1945 to 1970. It usually concentrates  one particular area. Natural woods usage would add a mid-century style which is simple yet unstated. To give an impression of space, there is a small glass table and the furniture has all got tall legs.

Modern Country

A country styled home is a classic style statement in English homes. There is mixture of woods, warm neutral colour schemes to get that country pub feeling and cosiness. There are wooden beams on the ceiling, wooden floors, grandfather clock on the wall, handwoven baskets on the sides filled with logs of fire along with fresh plants and flower around.

Hollywood Glamour

This encompasses the Hollywood backdrop of the 1930s filled with glitz and glamour. White walls, crystals and gold coloured accessories here and there. This epitomes glamour, luxury and adds more to the glitz when you see the modern black chairs along with gold and white tables with ornate legs. But, for such an exquisite hollywood glamour home insurance would be also considered an important factor. Reimagination of this factor is something that is not to be missed.

Hope this reading could take you back to the Father Ted days!
